HOW TO BECOME ELIGIBLE FOR A NUPIC AUDIT
If you, as a supplier, have as few as 5 customers who are NRC Licensees or international nuclear plant operators, you are eligible for a NUPIC Audit. Sponsorship by 5 NUPIC Members automatically enrolls suppliers into the NUPIC standard 33-month audit schedule. For more information, contact NUPIC Chair, Earl Mayhorn CustomerQuestions@nupic.com, or any NUPIC Member indicated on the NUPIC Rep Listing.

REQUIREMENTS FOR BECOMING A NUPIC MEMBER
To be a member of NUPIC, you must be an NRC Licensee or International Nuclear Plant Operator. Please contact a Steering Committee member as listed on our website: www.nupic.com. Use the links on the left side of the website and select “NUPIC Committees”. Then select “Steering Committee”.

|
MEMBERSHIP COST? MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL PERIOD AND FEES?
As a vendor, there is no cost. If you have customers as defined above, then it will be their responsibility to contact you for the arrangements to set up for an audit. Most vendors are audited on the 33 month cycle. Fuels suppliers are audited at 36 months.
Membership fees for NUPIC members are set in October of each year for the following year.
|
|
IS AN AUDIT FROM NUPIC NECESSARY?
No, An Audit from NUPIC means that your company is being examined to the standards of 10CFR50, Appendix B. This means that you have the proper process in place to perform work and show the ability to meet those requirements on a continuous basis.
Instead of an Audit, you could also receive a Survey. A Survey is very similar to an Audit except that you are not inspected to the criteria of 10 CFR 50, Appendix B; you are inspected to the critical characteristics of the manufacturing of the components you supply to the nuclear plants.
|
|
WHAT IS THE ESTIMATED TIME REQUIRED TO PERFORM AN AUDIT?
As a supplier of parts and/or services to the nuclear industry, you are not considered a member of NUPIC, you are considered a vendor, which does not require a registration nor a fee. You would be audited at a 33-36 month frequency and most Audits are conducted between the hours of 8 A.M. and 5 P.M, Monday through Friday for a duration of about 5 days. This timeframe can change considering the complexity of your organization.

ADDITIONAL HELPFUL INFORMATION
In our website, we also have a link on the left side that states all the NUPIC Representatives (NUPIC Rep Listing). Please look at the names of the reps and see if any of your customers are listed. If so, then each one is required to perform some sort of oversight on your facility. Once you reach 5 users, then NUPIC will automatically set up the Audit.
If you go to the website, www.nupic.com and look down the left side under the title, Supplier Information, you will be able to click on a link that says, “Download NUPIC Documents”.
If you look under the title of “Checklists”, you will see the links for Audit, Survey, and Calibration Checklists. Please click on each of the links to download the documents. These documents are what we use when performing Audits or Surveys. As we update our checklist, we update these links. Once you set up your internal Audits of your facility, you can use these checklists, or modify them to better fit your facility.

NUPIC VENDOR CONFERENCE - JUNE
I do highly recommend coming to the annual NUPIC Meeting that we hold each year in June with all of our vendors. We discuss industry issues, provide feedback from the NRC and several other organizations, and give you the opportunity to ask questions and meet with other vendors and our NUPIC Representatives. There is a tab on the left side of our website listed as “Future NUPIC Meetings”. Select this tab and use the dropdown to see where the next conference will be held and on what dates. You may contact any member of the Steering Committee for more information on hotel costs or attendance fees.
